Alphabet-Saurus! is a book filled with poems or fables. There is a poem for every letter in the alphabet. At the beginning of the book, the author says he wanted to write an alternative to traditional fables because they can be cruel. I think this is a good idea. When I was younger, my mom gave me a book of old fables from around the world; they were very scary and some were violent. The poems (fables) in this book are not scary.

The poems are creative. It is nice to read one or listen to one before going to bed. Some of the poems are like brain teasers; they make you think. The author recommends the book for people age nine and up. I think a nine year old would enjoy the poems more if they are read to them out loud instead of reading them to themselves. Some of the poems are difficult to understand.

The artwork could be much more interesting. On the cover, there is a border made up of small pictures for every poem. It is a nice cover. However, this same border, with a letter of the alphabet in the middle, is in between every poem. It would be nice if the artwork was different in between each poem. The stories are very detailed, but the artwork is not as interesting as the poetry.

I thought this book was good. One of my favorites was the letter ‘T’ poem about the Tokolosh. For people like me who don’t read a lot of poetry, it is best to read one poem a day so you can really think about it. It also helps to understand the poems if you read them out loud. If you like fables or poetry, you will really like this book.
