Albert Starts School: Days of the Week (Mouse Math)
Albert is very excited to start school, he can hardly wait. When he arrives, he finds out that, in school, there are rules he needs to follow. He can’t do whatever he wants, whenever he wants; it just isn’t like home. On Monday, they have story time. On Tuesday, there is art. On Wednesday, they do gymnastics. On Thursday, they play music. On Friday, they make their own snack. A chart on the wall explains whose turn it is to feed the class pet. Also, in school, kids take naps when it is time, and not just when they feel tired like at home. Albert does not like it at first, but then he learns to wait for his turn and do what the teacher says, and he starts having fun. When Frank, a new student, arrives, Albert is very happy to show him around and teach him all the rules. On Saturday, Albert is happy to have all the free time, but the first thing he decides to play is school.
I liked this book because it reminded me that sometimes things do not look very exciting in the beginning, but they do become fun after I give it a try.
