A Riddle in Ruby
A Riddle in Ruby, by Kent Davis, is a book that combines adventure, magic, alchemy, and a little bit of steampunk. Ruby sets off on an adventure with her dad, several crew members, and some strangers. Along the way, people are revealed to not be who they first appear to be and other people show off qualities and abilities that are cool. Ruby and her friends face off against tinkerwolves and other mechanicals as well as soldiers. They have a sailing adventure, her dad is captured, and they have to figure out what Ruby has that is so important to so many people.
This book started off slowly for me and I did not like it very much. The suspenseful parts were not very full of suspense. I did not think that the characters were well-developed and I did not always understand why they did the things the way they did. Parts of it were boring and it did not flow well for me. If you are a fan of Mr. Davis’ writing, you may enjoy this book more than I did, but I will not be rushing out to look for the second and third installments of this trilogy.
