A Mountain of Friends

This story is about a sad little penguin who can’t fly. I didn’t like that the penguin can’t fly. The little penguin says, “I’m a bird but I can’t fly! No matter how hard I try, I can’t get off the ground.” The main characters in this book are the penguin and the animals. There is a beautiful elephant and there was a giraffe, a toucan, and a snake. The illustrations in this book are beautiful because they look just like an elephant. Some pages don’t have words but they do have pictures. It surprised me when I had to turn the book. The reader – that’s me! – gets to help the penguin. That was a surprise! My favorite part of this story was when the animals were doing teamwork together. The idea that penguins could fly makes this book special to me. I liked when the book said, “The clouds are not too high for a little penguin on a mountain of friends…” I think kids who like friends and animals will enjoy this book.
