A Million Ways Home
When Poppy’s grandma suffers from a stroke, Poppy is forced to dorm with mean Sidney in a foster home. However, Poppy is the type of girl who refuses to let anyone, not even fate, dictate her life. In the span of a moment, she comes up with a plan to run away and rescue her grandma from the nursing home. This plan rapidly disintegrates as Poppy finds herself caught in the middle of a horrendous crime and in need of protection from a murderer on the loose. She befriends the stern yet kind-hearted Detective Trey Brannigan, and forms an unlikely family with his good-natured mother Marti, a defiant girl named Lizzie, and a castaway dog named Gunner. A Million Ways Home by Dianna Dorisi Winget is a heartwarming story about a girl whose larger-than-average heart gets her into loads of trouble. Poppy wants to help everyone in need: her grandma, Gunner, and Lizzie. What she eventually learns is that it’s impossible to always be in control and sometimes, it’s okay to let life takes its course. The lessons about friendship and growing up made me smile as well tear up, just a little bit.
