A Grandfather’s Lessons: In the Kitchen with Shorey

One of the best things about cooking is cooking with someone else, where you get to share being creative and also enjoying together what you make. It is also fun for both of you to share with others what you have made. Jacques Pepin, the celebrity chef, loves to cook with his granddaughter, Shorey, who has learned to love to cook just like he does, and they share many of their favorite recipes and cooking tips in this book so you can learn to love it, too.

This book has lots of recipes and good tips, but while some of the recipes are simple, many are quite complicated, especially for a child. The point is to be cooking together with an adult, but the recipes are complex enough that the adult will probably be too busy trying to figure out how to make them to help the child. Also, a large amount of these recipes are for fish (like Sushi Salmon Cubes!) or other ingredients that are not really child-friendly. This is a good book to read through to learn some techniques, and the writing is friendly, but it is probably not a book you will cook with very often.
