A Drink of Water and Other Stories is a collection of folktales by John Yeoman. He uses some of his stories to teach his readers lessons, such as in “A Drink of Water,” where it tells you to use your eyes and common sense to figure out how to get what you need. The next chapter discusses that if you help a friend, the friend will help in return. I thought all seven chapters were equally interesting and captivating; however, I found the seventh chapter, the “Jungle Band,” the funniest. When a group of animals try to form a band, the music sounds terrible, but the animals don’t realize it. One reason that I liked this book so much is because I like the author’s style of writing. His words aren’t too difficult, but they aren’t too babyish either. I also enjoyed this book because my favorite illustrator, Quentin Blake, illustrated it. The colorful illustrations make the book even more attractive. My overall opinion of this book is that it is a lovely children’s book, and I would recommend it to ages ten or under. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did!
