A Comb of Wishes

Following her mother’s death, Kela feels lost. She spends most of her time on the beach collecting sea glass, “mermaid’s tears,” hoping to find the final piece of her mother’s rainbow. One day, when she’s collecting the shards of glass, Kela comes across a mysterious and powerful object—a mermaid’s comb. She realizes her mistake too late—she has summoned the powerful mermaid Ophidia.

Ophidia makes a deal with Kela—the return of her comb for a single wish. Kela wants her mother back more than anything, even when Ophidia warns her that the bigger the wish, the higher the cost. As the waves of fate churn the sea, Kela realizes just how dangerous a price she might have to pay…

This story is full of Caribbean folklore, weaving a tale of magic and wishes with a heartwarming story of family set at its center. I liked this book because Kela was a relatable and interesting character. The book is told from the perspectives of both Kela and Ophidia, making the story even more interesting! I would recommend this book to any tween looking for a fun, heartfelt story with twists and turns on every page!
