27 Magic Words
27 Magic words is about two girls who move from Paris to Iowa and learn the truth about their parents, who have been missing for years. They had been living with their grandmother in Paris but now need to move to their uncle. Kobi thinks her parents are still alive, lost on an island after the shipwreck, and with the “27 magic words” that she received from her mother when she was little, she doesn’t give up hope for her parents’ return.
In school, Kobi has trouble making friends, while her sister, Brook, on the other hand, makes friends quickly. Kobi clings to her magical words and her parents’ past but eventually learns to let go! In the end, both girls accept their new surroundings and lives.
I liked the book because I’ve never read anything like it. I learned that words and imagination can be magical in a different way than I thought! They can get you through hard times and help you deal with situations.
I didn’t like it because it was very sad and not exactly what I expected. I had hoped for a more exciting, fantasy-style story. I would still recommend this book for kids ten and up who like to read a bit more realistic, serious books.
