Tuktuk: Tundra Tale
TukTuk: Tundra Tale is about a little collared lemming named TukTuk who found a kamik in the snow. A kamik is a waterproof boot with musk ox hair to keep warm. TukTuk tried to pull the kamik back to his hole in the snow. Along the way, TukTuk meets a polar bear, an arctic fox, and a caribou. Each animal is wanting the kamik to keep themselves warm in winter. TukTuk tells them that they can use the kamik to keep warm, but when it doesn’t fit, each animal doesn’t want it. But the kamik is perfect to keep TukTuk warm.
I really liked TukTuk: Tundra Tale, but one of my favorite parts is at the end of the book. At the end there are arctic animal facts, an explanation about seasons in the arctic, and vocabulary to help you learn more about the words used in the book. I had read another book about a dog named Kamik, and this book taught me that the dog is named after the waterproof boot that Inuits wear. The illustrations are beautiful and give so much detail about what these animals look like.
