Things That Make You Go Yuck!: Extreme Living
Very strange organisms are in this book. Prism-shaped hairs keep silver ants cool. The blobfish is called the “Couch Potato of the Sea.” It waits for something to crawl into its mouth. Dust mites can’t live in the desert because it isn’t a humid atmosphere. Most bananas in the grocery store have the same DNA. Bleeding tooth fungus is ewwww. There is a caterpillar with a horn of heads. I think assassin spiders are cute. Other people will probably disagree with me. The hydnora africana plant smells like dung because dung beetles pollinate it. I want to see the giant quaking aspens in Utah. Vegetarian spiders are cool. Osedax worms are amazing. Dracula ants are scary. I’m too shocked to say anything about the olm. Tardigrades are superheroes.
I learned a lot from this book. I didn’t even know that blobfish or tardigrades existed until now. I like the photo of the giraffe spider. I like that they used photographs. Most of the jokes are funny. (The Lego joke was hilarious.) The “Test Your Extreme Knowledge” questions are great. “Think About It” tells me to draw things, make things, and think about things. People who like plants and animals will like this book.
