The Art of Titanfall
Titanfall is an upcoming first-person shooter developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by EA. This book is a collection of the breathtaking art that is featured in the game, including stills of the Titans, of weaponry, of ships, of backgrounds, and of players and maps. The illustrations are incredibly detailed and feature a picturesque blend of digital art and hand-illustrated pictures. The book features comments from the developers: their thoughts about the various elements of the game and their notes on game lore. The result is a masterpiece of artwork and design.
One of my favorite parts of this book was the illustrations of various game maps. For instance, the map ‘Angel City’ is astoundingly detailed. Each blade of grass, each leaf, each blossom, each wrinkled coverlet, is painstakingly mapped. The book is divided into four sections. Titans and Pilots demonstrates the game’s titular mechanical warriors, the humans who pilot them, and some of the bizarre life that inhabits the alien worlds on which Titanfall is set. Vehicles, Weapons and Tech describes the tools the characters use to support them in their combat. The Locations section features tours of the games many maps, while the Graphics and Modules sections describes a little of the process of creating these fantastic elements. The Art of Titanfall is a fascinating and essential companion to the game.
