Splat the Cat and the Hotshot
The book tells a story about two cats that attend cat scouts, Splat and Scott. After Splat meets a new cat scout in his troop named Scott, Splat thinks that Scott is a hotshot, but then realizes that Scott isn’t as big of a star cat scout as he first thought. Splat realizes that he has scouting skills as good or better than Scott. I thought it was really cool how Splat and Scott help each other with problems they face during cat scouts and on their hiking trip. I really liked the artwork because it is bright and colorful. But, there were some things that were puzzling. For instance, Scott is drawn on some pages wearing a backpack and on some other pages it is missing. The same goes for Scott’s walking stick that suddenly disappears from one page to the next. What I really thought was the best message in the story is that we all have things we aren’t great at, but if we work together we can do almost anything. I give Splat the Cat and the Hotshot one big thumbs up.
