Saving H’Non: Chang and the Elephant
I loved the previous book, Saving Sorya: Chang and the Sun Bear, because she loves animals, just like me. These are graphic novels about a young conservationist (that’s someone who helps protect animals and the environment) called Chang. In this story, Chang helps an elephant named H’non. H’non needs help because her elephant tamer is breaking her spirit. That made me really sad. But Chang finds the elephant and makes the elephant trainers stop hurting her. H’non had a very hard life. They treated her very badly and she got very old and thin. Chang finds someone to help care for H’non, but it takes a lot to help the poor, old elephant.
Saving H’non: Chang and the Elephant by Trang Nguyen is a sad book but powerful. I don’t like that people do this still today. Animals need our help and people ought to treat them better. Way better. But I loved this book so much. It is beautiful. Whoever illustrated this book (Jeet Zdung) is really good at drawing. I love all the pictures. Kids who love animals like I do might like this book.
