Pinocchio is a regular wooden robot until the day a mysterious prisoner of the venetian empire takes out the object that animates him and puts a pine cone where it goes. After being taken to Geppetto, the reclusive alchemist, he and Geppetto run away from one of the emperor’s soldiers. They find one of Pinocchio’s powers, to bring the dead back to life. Geppetto and Pinocchio part ways, Pinocchio to a circus where he attracts the attention of the soldier and a rogue band of chimeras (half beasts with no rights). Geppetto finds the daughter of Prester John, and they plan a rescue mission. Geppetto gets captured, and Pinocchio is freed but the emperor is going to take over Abaton, the magical fairy land. The emperor is inside the monster guarding Abaton and they must go inside. They find Prester John and learn that the Ancientmost Pearl, the secret to immortality is in Pinocchio.

I liked that this story had a lot of magic. I also liked that it had different species because I like hearing about different species. I did not like that the names were longer and harder to pronounce.
