Narwhals are really interesting animals, and you can learn about them from this book. They live in cold waters, and they have one long horn. But that is actually a tusk, a tooth, that only the male narwhals grow. They get a lot of information from their tusk, and people are still studying what the tusk can do. Narwhals are big, but only medium-sized for a whale. They mostly eat fish and squid, but killer whales and polar bears like to eat narwhals! This book has watercolor paintings of the whales and other animals that are really beautiful, and there are pictures of narwhal skeletons and babies, which are called calves. My favorite picture is on the cover of the book; it shows a pod of narwhals peeking their heads above the ice and water to breathe. You don’t learn a lot about narwhals, but that is because people still don’t know very much about them. This book is a good way for children to start to learn about these animals because it is easy to read and has great pictures, and it also gives you interesting information.
