Everyone has a family legacy, but Susana Prather was given a particularly unfortunate one. Since the mid-1800s, every first-born daughter has wandered into the murky Georgia swamps behind the house and drowned, leaving only secrets behind them. Now that Susana is 18, she knows it’s only a matter of time before the generational madness takes over and she too loses herself to the swamp. Desperate for answers and salvation, Susana begins looking for a way to break the curse in the twisted lore of her family’s history. As she walks further down the dark road of her past, Susana must hold on to her faith in love, reconciliation, and hope if she is ever to create a new future.

This was a very interesting book! It was a family drama filled with secrets, intrigue, and a hint of magic. I was not expecting so much romance, which took away from the dark atmosphere of the story. I felt like the story would have been better with more of a focus on the psychological horror that was advertised. However, the actual premise was fascinating and executed well. I recommend this for lovers of gothic folklore!
