Tara Boone is struggling to stay afloat. Between her crammed college courses and overwhelming number of jobs, she doesn’t see herself fulfilling her dream of becoming a writer. Until a girl dies, that is, and Tara is selected to take her place at the esteemed academic society Magni Viri. But once she’s inside, she realizes the institution isn’t all it’s made out to be. Whole days and nights begin to disappear from her memory. The dreams of a dead girl plague her. And the students of Magni Viri are hiding something dangerous. Is it worth it, to see her dreams fulfilled? Even if she’s slowly losing herself?

I really liked the first half of this book. The emotions and the dark cadence of the writing really draw you in, giving you the perfect gothic horror scene. But shortly after Tara gets into Magni Viri, the story’s pace slows and loses its flow. There were too many characters thrust in all at once, and Tara’s relationship with another girl from the school seemed forced. The end was waaay too slow, and honestly, a disappointing conclusion to the story. I would still recommend this book to gothic-loving horror readers!
