The Stranded Whale is about a sister and her two brothers who were walking home from school, along the beach in Maine. She saw a whale, who was stranded on the land. It was huge, the eye being the size of a bicycle tire. The brothers and sisters ran to the ocean to soak their sweaters and pour the water onto the whale. One brother ran to a phone and people from the coast guard came to help. They tried their best to save the whale by pouring water onto it.

I loved The Stranded Whale, even though it made me feel sad. I think it can teach people about whales and to not pollute the oceans. I know that some whale populations, like the resident orcas off of British Columbia are endangered. The Stranded Whale is fiction, but could easily be based on a true story since about 2000 whales are beached each year. The author made the story takes place in 1971, which means there were no cell phones, and it took longer to get help than it might have today. The illustrations were really pretty and made you feel like you were there. I think everyone should read this book.
